Rival/Boss

Jun Senoue on Sonic Generations Original Soundtrack:

Rival/Boss

In this game, we line up the faces with not just many stages, but also plenty of nostalgia of confrontation as bosses, rivals, and others. Coming from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the Death Egg Robot. In order to show the solid impression, it is the same phrase for the composition while trying to insert the timpani, I composed in such a way that the atmosphere changes in three stages through the degree of progress. As for the one from Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Metal Sonic appears as rival. I think there are people who know that in the game, the music used in Japan/Europe versions and U.S. version are different, so the versions, which are unforgettable inside the mind of the fans of each region, vary. In White Space-Time, we had prepared the system that is possible to change the music, so deciding to prepare both versions, Hataya, who was in charge of the original composition, handled the music of Metal Sonic for Japan/Europe versions, and I completed it with Cash Cash for U.S. version. With Cash Cash, together we also handled the highlights of the first half and Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s Big Arms’ remix that I personally grasped in Blue Adventure. Originally, it is the music in which the aggressive atmosphere appeared in the front, but in the version of this time, I think it has become something which we could feel further power and feeling of tension. I first saw them during the music recording of Sonic Colors, but while talking about a lot of things after actually meeting them, I knew that they are big fans of Sonic series, and the fact that Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the title that I was first involved in as a job, was, to Alex, a game that he first played, was also a fantastic episode that lets us feel the “generations” in the title of this game. In the Perfect Chaos of Sonic Adventure, switching with the first half that used the main theme song Open Your Heart and with the more serious latter half was according to the originals.

Regarding Open Your Heart, I produced with the trend that newly re-records the guitar to Circuit Freq’s remix. They again carried out the remix of the composition of versus Shadow the Hedgehog battle For True Story from Sonic Adventure 2, but including the performance part that appears in the beginning, I think it was completed in a good impression as the flow. In the timing in which Sonic and Shadow increase their power respectively on the way, I decided to choose Live & Learn and All Hail Shadow as the songs that represent each of them with the impression of matching the effect moment, and for the Egg Emperor of Sonic Heroes, I performed the re-recording after changing the appointed musicians. As for the aforementioned latter half of Perfect Chaos’s music Perfect Chaos Revival!, Supporting Me… for Biolizard’s battle of Sonic Adventure 2, and the music of versus Silver the Hedgehog battle from the 15th anniversary commemorative title Sonic the Hedgehog, Richard Jacques remade them. All of them are the versions in which his detailed working style shines. The compositions related to Time Eater, which is the last boss in this game, are likewise things coming from Richard as well, and while sharing the melody and motive with the same tempo, he prepared two versions varying in arrangement, guitar phrase, etc, fit those to player characters’ switching, and put them to use.
